Company of the Month: VR Travel

For over 50 years, VR Travel - also known as Vejle Rejser - has assisted both private and business customers in traveling safely between Greenland and the rest of the world. With roots dating back to 1969 and a local office in Nuuk since 1994, today the company is one of Greenland's most experienced travel partners and an important player in the interaction between Greenlandic businesses and international accessibility, says Nungo Pedersen, Agency Manager for VR Travel Greenland.

Originally, the company was founded by father and son, Gunnar and Peer Bjørck, focusing on tourism bus tours to the Harz Mountains. However, it quickly expanded to also arrange flights and adventures for both Danish and Greenlandic customers. This increased demand from Greenlandic companies and institutions led to the establishment of an office in Nuuk. Today, customers meet local travel advisors with a thorough understanding of both the language and logistics of the Arctic landscape.

Furthermore, Nungo says that VR Travel differs from many other players by being supplier-independent and management-owned. This provides both flexibility and a concise decision-making path, allowing the company to react, adjust, and meet customer needs quickly. From simple flights to complex business trips, VR Travel works with one goal in mind: to provide the best possible solution for the customers.

A significant aspect of the company's strength lies in the interplay between the local and global. With offices in both Denmark and Greenland, and 24/7 customer service, VR Travel can quickly locate and assist travelers, even in crisis situations. The company also has a strategic partnership with CTM (Corporate Travel Management), which ensures access to favorable prices on flights, hotels, and car rentals.

Sustainability is also on the agenda. Internally, VR Travel is working to reduce electricity and paper consumption while providing its corporate customers with CO₂ reports and statistics on their travel activity. Technologically, it is integrating its systems with local partners, making the overall product offering in Greenland more accessible and transparent.

With the prospect of new international airports in Nuuk, Ilulissat, and Qaqortoq, travel patterns are undergoing significant changes. This opens up new opportunities for more flights, new destinations, and more differentiated products. Nungo predicts that business travelers will increasingly demand more flexibility and choice, from luggage solutions and lounge access to the ability to sleep in a reclined position on longer flights.

In the future, VR Travel is committed to maintaining and expanding its market share both in Greenland and internationally. Its position as an independent, locally rooted and globally connected travel partner makes it a natural choice for companies that value insight, service, and credibility, Nungo concludes.
