New Year's greetings

Dear all,

An exciting year is coming to an end and soon we will enter 2024.

When I look back at the months that have passed since I became chairman of the board on 28th April 2023, I am even more excited about what lies ahead.

Since April, I have had the pleasure of meeting several of you both in Ilulissat and Aasiaat as well as in Nuuk. It has been instructive to listen to you and to relate to all the different situations we are each in, in our industries and how we each find, sometimes creative, solutions that are constantly beneficial to our customers and our businesses.

It is also thought-provoking to hear about the common denominators we all have in the challenges we each have locally, with the frameworks that have been laid out or lack thereof. Challenges which occasionally hit us directly in our growth and which can hinder the development we are trying to create.

That is why I am delighted to experience up close that we have a secretariat that is constantly working to push for the right framework conditions needed for business to develop and grow.

A secretariat that is alert and clear when it comes to further conveying the conditions that we, as a business community, are looking for. The secretariat is professional and constructive and invites stakeholders to a continuous dialogue.

I am also pleased to be part of a broadly represented board, as well as a chairmanship, each of whom has a deep commitment to their hinterland and can therefore convey very precisely what is important to pass on to the politicians.

In the public debate it seems to be too easy to hide behind a screen and “shoot”, at times, inappropriately at everything that moves in a very negative and derogatory tone. This behaviour and way of participating in the debate creates a silence in society, among those who want to contribute to the development. I believe the public debate is better off with respect for disagreements and with a solution-oriented perspective

I want to contribute to the fact that we ourselves can take part in the shared responsibility for what we each contribute with and what we bring to the table before we point our fingers at others.

The strong business community that is thankfully present in Greenland will prosper within the legal framework and create growth for the benefit of society.

Frameworks that we at the GBA constantly and continuously work to help shape.

In the new year, I look forward to visiting more of the local associations and meeting you on your home turf. I am looking forward to being part of the development of the GBA's board, as well as continue to define how we want to work in the future to strengthen the community even more at the GBA.
