Business of the Month: LASØ A/S (LASØ Ltd)

The company is founded on September 1, 1973, in Uummannaq by Harald Larsen and Ole Sørensen. However, in the mid-1980s Harald Larsen leaves the company. In 1991, Ole moves to Upernavik and starts a new company there, and the two original companies merge in 2005. LASØ A/S has developed significantly over the years. Although they have reduced their workforce today from almost 150 to around 50 in the high season, LASØ A/S is still one of the most significant companies in the region.

The unique climatic conditions in Uummannaq and Upernavik have placed special demands on LASØ's operations. The seasonal nature of their work, characterized by extreme weather conditions and limited infrastructure, requires careful planning and flexibility. This has meant that the company has had to develop a special expertise in dealing with these challenges.

Over the years, LASØ has expanded its service offering significantly. From focusing primarily on construction, its business now also includes auto repair shops, a kiosk in Upernavik, and housing rentals in Uummannaq. This diversification has been key to keeping the company dynamic and adaptable in changing economic landscapes.

LASØ A/S's commitment to the local communities is remarkable. It prioritizes hiring local staff and supplementing with Danish craftspeople, reflecting a commitment to supporting local areas. Its contribution to local events and role as a voice for local communities emphasizes its commitment to being more than just a business.

In environmental matters, LASØ A/S has taken the initiative to integrate sustainability into its projects. It has invested in energy optimization of its buildings, and it’s aware of the environmental impact of its work.

Training and development of employees is a key focus for LASØ A/S. The company is eager to upskill its employees and emphasize the importance of attracting new generations to the craftsman professions. This focus is vital to ensure a high standard of work and promote the industry's growth in the region.

Looking to the future, LASØ A/S sees opportunities for growth and expansion. The company plans to expand its market share and bid on jobs outside its traditional markets. Its experience working in difficult conditions and its strong position in renovation projects make it well-equipped to handle future challenges..

This company's story is not only a tale of business success but also of a deep understanding of the unique conditions in Northwestern Greenland. LASØ A/S is a powerful example of how businesses can thrive in difficult conditions by remaining flexible, innovative, and deeply rooted in their local communities.

A hearty congratulations to LASØ A/S. We look forward to following the company's continued growth and success in the future.
